The foundation for organizational development is clear and effective communication strategies.

Most managers tell me that this is a low number, that on some days that is all they do. How much of your time are you spending on it? What is it costing you and your organization? There are many ways to build communication effectiveness. One way is start with some type of assessment. I prefer the DISC Personality Profile for many reasons. It is easy to adminster and easy to understand. It provides a framework for you understanding yourself and others. This can be utilized in team building, managing, empowering, coaching and serving your customers.

The other big area that I find organizations have a challenge with is expectations. We each come to work with a set of expectations. We expect this job to meet our expectations but I never even tell you what they are. What happens over time is the expectations are not met and people become discouraged and bring less and less of themselves to work. Have you noticed this with yourself or with your co-workers? The classic signs are less productivity, a lower level of commitment to the team and more time spent at the water cooler gossiping.

We can only expect our customer service to be as strong as our weakest link. In other words, if you treat your employees with less than dignity and respect that will have a direct impact on how they treat your customers.
